A shameless variant of the 'Movies with great soundtracks' thread.

What shows do you consider to have great soundtracks?
I'll begin with 'Due South'.
This is the show that introduced me to Loreena McKennitt.

Not the kind of show I enjoy but some fantastic renditions throughout

I have this on vinyl

Babylon Berlin is the most amazing TV series from Germany (Shown in UK on Sky Atlantic). It is set in 1920's Berlin and features new music with a twenties feel including cameo appearances from Bryan Ferry. I can't recommend it highly enough but, if you don't like subtitles then maybe it is not for you, however, you will be missing one of the best series ever.

Gomorra - Set in the suburbs of Naples, Italy, the crime drama goes inside the Camorra, a fierce Neapolitan crime organization led by Pietro Savastano. In Neapolitan and Italian with subtitles. Sky Atlantic and Sundance.

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Hebrews 4:12
Inspector Montalbano - based on the novels of Andrea Camilleri, who died yesterday at the age of 94. Set in Italy the series is based around the character of Salvo Montalbano, memorably played by Luca Zingaretti. In Sicilian and Italian with English subtitles. BBC. The music is reminiscent of the music of Alberto Ginastera and Astor Piazzola, and is available on CD.

Loved the Tour of Duty soundtrack (already posted above). The original Battlestar Galactica had a fairly impressive orchestral score, at least for the pilot and the theatrical movie (which was just a re-edit of the pilot). After that, they tended to just reuse the material, much as they reused many of their fx shots over and over to save money. Derivative of movie scores of that period to some degree (esp. John Williams), but did its own thing enough to be interesting.

I always thought “The Flash” television series from the early 1990’s had a great soundtrack. Danny Elfman was the composer.

That was really Elfman's heyday as a composer. I find his recent stuff is getting a bit same-y and dull. And I loved that version of The Flash. Unfortunately, it predated the modern superhero boom so fizzled out pretty quickly. At least John Wesley Shipp (Barry Allan/The Flash in it) got another kick at the superhero can in the current Flash series, playing Barry's father in the main universe and an alternate Flash in another.

Gilmore Girls
VIKINGS
Good Girls
Imposters
Airwolf.
Netflix's Russian Doll has a nicely curated soundtrack of popular music. Harry Nilsson's "Gotta Get Up" serves kind of, sort of, as the theme (but not really, it just shows up whenever the main character's time loop restarts).

Justified

Fire and Ice - A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words competition, first place

Monster - Survivor competition, first place

TV theme from the late 60's series about three 'swinging chicks' sharing a groovy pad in London. Featuring posh cello-playing deb Victoria (Liza Goddard), failed actress Kate (Susan Jameson) and Cockney art student Avril (Angela Down)

Nine years later, 1978, The Paper Lads was a regional children's show from Tyne Tees Television, set in Newcastle.
The theme tune was sung by a woman who had the most beautiful and clear voice, Annie Haslam.

One of my all-time favourite TV shows along with its theme tune by Mike Post.

Just looked back and actually saw the original post (I kind of came into this thread in the middle). I love Loreena and she actually doesn't live that far from me. Not that I am ever likely to meet her, but she's definitely considered a local favorite in SW Ontario.

Mike Post was to TV themes was John Williams is to movie themes. Ever present and always good, whether the series was or not.

I think the eighties-nineties Star Trek shows generally had good music, at least Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. I don't remember anything of Voyager's score beyond the theme, but that theme was a gorgeous piece of music that deserved a better show. It was written by film composer Jerry Goldsmith, who ranks up there with Williams and whose opening title music for Star Trek The Motion Picture was adapted as the theme for Next Generation.

Don't mention Jerry Goldsmith. I love the Ridley Scott film, Legend. For some reason, it was only released in the US with the Tangerine Dream soundtrack. The only version available over here has the Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack which totally kills the atmosphere of the whole film. I am amazed that Ridley Scott prefers the Goldsmith version!

I remember hearing that. I've only seen it with the Tangerine Dream score so can't really comment. There was a good Jon Anderson solo song in it, too, IIRC.

I was not that impressed with Legend overall. I expected better from Scott after loving Alien and Blade Runner. Had some good bits, including the score, but did not sit well with me for some reason (that likely had the initials T. C. 😉). Basically, if it hadn't been for Tim Curry as the villain, I probably would have forgotten it pretty quickly. He pretty much salvaged the movie for me.

If there was no Tangerine Dream soundtrack, the only saving grace would have been Jon Anderson AND Bryan ferry!

And now I discover that David Gilmour is the guitarist on this track. What an awesome level of talent Ridley Scott used!

I had forgotten Ferry was on it, too. And I hadn't know Gilmour was involved either. Usually I can pick him out. His guitar style is very distinctive, even when he's not with Floyd.

Back in the '70s, there was a children's science show on British TV called, 'Don't Ask Me'

The theme, House of the King, was by a Dutch band who became very well known back then, Focus.

Anyone remember The Partridge Family? They sang some great tunes that went on to become huge hits.
