There is a specific amount that is in whole coins. The coins are quantized, they can not be broken into smaller parts.
To clarify, if you used 4 pennies, 1 nickel, 1 dime, 1 quarter, 1 half dollar, then the sum of the values of the coins would be $.96. There is a way to make a larger sum, that is what you need to find to answer this riddle.

Edit-I did give somebody some more clues so I will share those clues; Some do have five, a few have one, there have been instances with one having two and one having three. They could have seven, eight, nine, ten and eleven but I have never seen any like those. And the numbers do not refer to engine cylinders.
It has been more than a week so I will give the answer; A Guitar 🎸. There are 12 string guitars, bass guitars have 4 strings, most guitars have 6 strings. There are 5 string basses (they have a low B string added to them). I once saw The Presidents of the United States playing on the Jenny McCarthy Show and the guitar only had 3 strings and the bass only had 2 strings. A wash tub bass guitar has only 1 string. Guitars could have 7, 8, 9 , 10 or 11 strings but I have never seen any like that.
I have no senses but no senses exist without me. I do have one sense and it should be common but unfortunately it isn’t very.

It is Former presidents of the United States and the number refers to the number of terms each president served. I could have added Barack had two, Lyndon had one and a quarter, John had three quarters and Frank had three and a quarter but I thought that would be too obvious.
