Not in the theater or DVD, only here at home, an unexpected timely one. The Next 365 Days is the sequel from Blanka Lipińska's erotic trilogy book 365 Days. Dunno if it's with the heavy rain or I'm just hormonally emotional but it made me cry.
Just saw Barbarian in the theater. Really good strong horror movie. And the preview for Smile looks scary a f.

Moonfall on HBO Max. It was bad, a mash-up of themes from Independence Day, Armaggedon, and 2012. I'm not surprised it was a huge box office flop. I love watching Halle Berry, but she couldn't save this mess.
Oh, it's awful. I still liked it though. So weird and bad I couldn't look away.

I find over-the-top, bad disaster flicks entertaining but definitely ironically. The only one of Emmerich and Devlin's flicks I would actually call "good" is Independence Day and even that is because it seems to know how goofy it is and revels in it. Just look at Brent Spiner's performance and tell me he was taking it at all seriously.
Halloween looms and my annual story is here. Is it a trick? Or a treat? Let me know.

Just finished The Hobbit trilogy. I'd never seen them before. I really enjoyed them but couldn't help feeling that some of the scenes were specifically designed to promote a computer game. Now I have to watch The Lord of the Rings.
I'm kind of boycotting The Hobbit trilogy. There is absolutely no way on Earth that book should have been made as a trilogy. It would have been perfect as a single 2-3 hour movie, maybe a duology at most. There's an animated version by Rankin-Bass from the seventies that captures the book perfectly, not scene by scene (it actually cut a lot for length) but in spirit.

Have to agree with Scott, here. Peter Jackson went way too far and totally ruined what should have been a good film.
I watched the first one but didn't bother with the other two.
While I was away, I watched a film called Shut In. It turned out to be a quite decent thriller.
On the other hand, I also saw Boudicca: Rise of the Warrior Queen. I wished I hadn't. It was dire and pointless. I thought the IMDB rating of 2.9 was generous, to say the least.

We saw Smile last night. Very, very good. Scary, and with some surprising realism, connecting the dots between trauma and horror. Perfect example of taking a premise and just following the string--no tricks, no wasted moves-- to a logical conclusion. Highly recommend it. Talia about ripped my arm off she was so scared.

I just watched The Railway Children Return. Oh dear, what a disappointment. I was so looking forward to seeing it. It was filmed entirely on location around the area in which I live. The photography is lovely, and it is great to see my home area on the screen, but really the storyline and acting are dire. Edith Nesbitt and Lionel Jeffries must be spinning in their graves!

We watched Don't Worry Darling last night. It was REALLY good. Forget all the gossip about stars having affairs and such. It's just a well-made, thoughtful movie - great acting. Crushing a little on Florence Pugh at the moment. Talia approves.

We watched it last night as well. I enjoyed it, and although I knew something was off, I didn't see what happened coming. It has a beautiful look, and Florence Pugh was fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised by how well Harry Styles did in his role.

In December, I saw 'Violent Santa.' It is a cross between 'Home Alone' and 'The Vikings.' It will bring a lot of tummy laughter and knee-slapping funny. My whole family liked it. We also watched the DC universe 'Black Adam.' One of the better DC superhero movies.
A week ago, Liz and I viewed the new 'Avatar' movie in 3-D. It was quite a good film. The vistas and world were absolutely amazing. It had exciting character development. It is what you expect from a three-billion-dollar movie. The weakest part was the idea that caused the conflict.
Not a movie but whilst in Munich last month, I purchased a CD by Nightwish, Human II Nature. It contained a Bluray copy of the virtual concert they performed during the lockdown last year, The Islanders Arms. I sat back, switched on the TV and HiFi, and spent two hours blissfully unaware of anything else in the world. (When I returned home, of course. I don't think the other hotel guests would have appreciated it!)

I really enjoyed Avatar 2 as well! It was just so FULLY immersive, I felt like I was there after I got used to the glasses. I agree about the conflict being the weakest part: it worked best when you were just hanging out with the characters, learning about Pandora. I'd go see it again.

I watched Jurassic World Dominion last night. I enjoyed seeing the cast of the original reunite for this film, but the story was so-so, and it went on too long. I also watched Fall over the holidays. I have no idea why. I have a fear of heights, and watching that movie caused me a lot of anxiety, but I had to find out how it ended. Despite my anxiety, I thought they did a good job for a film that spent almost the whole time with two characters.

I finished that last night too! The original cast was the ONLY reason to watch it. swoons at Laura Dern It didn't make any sense. Just dumb. I understand Chris Pratt wanting to be an action star, but I like his jokey/goofy persona more.

I have just watched a couple of films on Netflix. The first, Hurricane, is a tale of the Polish airmen who fought in the Battle of Britain. It is absolutely dire! The CGI is like a low-grade video game and the portrayal of the RAF and Poles is ridiculous.
In contrast, the second movie is called The War Below. Apparently made with a budget of only £500,000, the photography and acting are superb. It is about a group of miners who tunnelled beneath the German Trenches at Messines Ridge in 1917. Whilst not entirely historically accurate due to the limitations of the budget, it depicts the true story of the biggest man-made explosion ever before experienced. It is said that the explosion was heard in London some 140 miles away. I highly recommend it.

The Banshees of Inisherin. I know it got great reviews and is now nominated for Best Picture Oscar, but I am not sure if I liked it. It went in directions I was not expecting, but the acting was excellent.
great film but bleak as fuck. not sure i'd tell anyone to go see it without warning them that it goes dark.
Avatar 3-D. the underwater stuff is amazing as is the world building. emotional, too. we both loved this. we're on a quest to watch all the oscar nommed stuff, btw - shorts, docs, international, all the categories. about half way through. next weekend, the whale, pinocchio, and probably Elivis.

I usually hate to influence anyone with spoilers, but this movie I am okay with doing that. I did talk my Mom out of seeing it with my dad. She would have hated it.
I watched Women Talking. The disturbing premise could have been hopelessly bleak in different hands. It was hard to watch but fascinating to listen to the group of women trying to make a monumental decision. It's not for everyone.
