Been watching Canada : The Story of Us. Came out for the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017. Starts with the arrival of the European and their relationships with the indigenous nations and continues up the postwar period. Perhaps a bit too focussed on the idea of Canadian history being about entrepreneurs and business, but that's ultimately truthful to a great degree. The fur trade drove a lot of the early European activity, including trade with the indigenous nations. It at least portrays the indigenous people in a positive light as civilized people with agency and intelligence rather than a stereotypical "noble savages" portrayal. Too short to really deal with anything in depth would be the main complaint, though, I think.

Halloween looms and my annual story is here. Is it a trick? Or a treat? Let me know.

I have been obsessed with Parts Unknown, Anthony Bourdain's astonishing show. Don't know why it took me so long to discover this show (or Bourdain for that matter). I'm by no means a foodie, but the show is so much more than food and travel. I'm  limiting myself to one a night, to make them last, and thank God there are so many.

Truth be told, I may have a little man-crush on Anthony Bourdain. I'm a sucker for the whole bad-boy tortured genius thing. Talia approves. Apparently she has a similar attraction to bad boy tortured geniuses. smile

Babylon 5  on DVD.  Pretty good so far just started season 1 last night

I haven't seen the whole thing but my late friend Mike loved it. I do like what I did see of it

I just finished watching Midnight Mass on Netflix and I really enjoyed it.  It was dark and moved at a great pace. The characters were likable or extremely dislikable in some cases. Like, I wished for this person to meet a violent end from the moment we met them.

That is next on my list. It caught my eye because of the connection to two other series (The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor) featuring many of the same actors. I loved both of those. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I've been watching the last season of The Walking Dead. Not my favorite anymore, and ending it is probably a good thing. They are recycling too many of the same storylines. I hope they do an excellent job with the conclusion. It has been a great series, for the most part, that deserves a fitting ending.

Funnily enough, there is a connection to Hush (on Netflix-excellent movie if you haven't watched it) and Gerald's Game (on Netflix as well). We can talk about it when you are finished.

I've been watching the last season of TWD too. I have to agree that I'm mostly over it too. I only continue to watch it for Aaron, Judith, Daryl, Negan, and the hope to see Michonne again. I do not like Eugene and Ezekiel's storyline at all.

Never got into TWD. I have Haunting of Hill House and Haunting of Bly Manor on my TBW (to be watched) list so I guess Midnight Mass will be joining them.

Still mostly just watching documentary stuff on Youtube with the odd foray into Netflix.

I’m watching the final season of TWD in the hope it ties up loose ends and finishes off the series on a vaguely hopeful note. It’s not happening so far, though. Lots of new characters, new storylines and no sign of closure. I think I’m going to be disappointed sad

I loved Hill House and Bly Manor and Dr. Sleep - I really dig Mike Flannagan's work. We're halfway through Midnight Mass - the actor playing the priest is a huge fave from The New Adventures of Old Christine (hopelessly addicted to reruns of that show).

TWD lost me around the time Negen showed up, though I'd been getting less and less engaged by it. They just seem to wander around making disastrous decisions for seasons at a time.  Them living in the little town was last time it made narrative sense.  And don't get me started about all the driving around - where do they get the gas!? It'd all go bad within a year.

The Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown episode on Detroit is sheer brilliance.

I think it was an odd choice to have such a twisted over the top storyline of Eugene and them. Not to mention Daryl's situation. It makes no sense and I think it's wasting time instead of wrapping up things that mean something to the fans. They chose the last season to spread themselves too thin.

Verbal, I have a huge crush on Father Paul. I was talking with someone yesterday that there has to be something wrong with me saying I have a crush on a Priest. lol

I'm with you, I really like Mike Flanagan too.

At this moment I'm watching Creepshow. They are great.

The Chestnut Man on Netflix.

The Chestnut Man on Netflix.

How is that, it's on my list?

CSI: Vegas. Oh how I loved this show. The reboot picks up where it left off. New series premiere was excellent.

Billions. Sigh. Love the show. Will miss the man. But his kids are more important. Fuck cancer. His wife did not need to die so young.

Sex Education. Slow, uninspiring start to season three. I hope it gets better. Seems forced early on.

NOVA. THC, CBD, and colliders finding neutrinos. And that’s just the first two episodes. Been watching this PBS science gem since the ‘80’s.

Succession. Season three starts in a couple weeks.

Iconoclastically incorrigible or just a silly dumb ass...

Yeah, Nova is a perennial classic of science journalism.

Been watching a few episodes of Closer to Truth. Runs on PBS apparently (though I don't recall ever seeing it on the PBS station we got before cutting the cord) but I am watching onnthe show's own YouTube. Basically it's quest for meaning stuff so lots of philosophy, theology, and cosmology. Forays into fringe science like panpsychism (the idea that all matter is "conscious" to some degree from quarks up to galaxies), but mostly pretty solid stuff. Very academic in approach, though. Mostly dialogues between the host and various academic experts.

Finished Midnight Mass last night. REALLY liked it! I loved the slow burn to a truly terrifying moment (the Easter vigil), and I thought the whole thing was a really subversive read on religion. And a great performance by the guy playing Father Paul. Great performances all around.

Season Six of Vikings. At last!

Live podcast ..music is on

Succession returned last night. Just an awesome show. HBO’s Emmy nod glutton replacement for GoT.

Goliath returned on Friday. Billy Bob Thornton is as nuanced and watchable as ever. Last season for this gem.

One last episode remaining this season for Nora From The Bronx. Fun and funny.

Still struggling through Sex Education. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s that all of these high school students are in their twenties. I hate that misrepresentation. But the lead was the lead in Hugo and the Boy In The Stripped Panamas. I love those connections.

Iconoclastically incorrigible or just a silly dumb ass...

I'm watching The Chestnut Man.

I've got the new season of You, Locke and Key Season 2, Another Life Season 2 (that I thought was canceled so I'm surprised to see), and Sex Education Season 3 on my list.

Happy to say that The Good Doctor is back! 😊

I have so many things I want to watch that sometimes it is hard to choose anything. I finished Midnight Mass and enjoyed it. I love Mike Flannagan's work.

I wish I had Showtime so I could see how they handle bringing Dexter back. I also finished The Squid Game. People have a lot to say about it, but the only thing that bothered me was the close captioning did not match the dubbing.

Another series I finished was the latest American Horror Story installment. I was not a fan of the first part of the double feature, but the second was delightfully campy. Mamie Eisenhour having a fling with an alien and an over the top Richard Nixon is hard to match

I am catching up on a documentary series called, The Race to Perfection. It is about the history of what makes Formula One the pinnacle of Motor Racing. Some great memories are brought to mind by the likes of Fangio, Graham Hill, Mansell, Senna, Prost, Hakkinen, Schumacher and, of course, Hamilton. It is also about the cars and the teams. Wonderful to see all the old footage again. 😁👍

I’m watching You on Netflix. I watched Season 1 ages ago but never got round to season 2. Can’t remember why, it’s really good

I have been trying to watch the 1977 Count Dracula on Prime but it's 4:3 ratio and looks terrible on my screen. This version stars Louis Jourdan as Dracula and Frank Finlay as Van Helsing and was a favorite of mine when it first came out. Have not watched it in years. Fairly faithful to the novel but, as always with Dracula adaptations, has some odd changes, e.g. Lucy and Mina are sisters instead of best friends and it is suggested Lucy is into Jonathan and is jealous of Mina's relationship with him.
